DENSO, as one of the leading global suppliers of advanced technology, systems and components, serves most the world's major car makers. Our diverse product line includes car air conditioning and heating systems, electrical automotive and electronic control products, fuel management systems, radiators, instrument panel clusters, filters, robotics, telecommunication products and information processing devices.

DENSO has accumulated more than 50 years of experience in the automotive industry and in this span of time, established 115 international companies in 31 countries with an approximate total staff strength of 95,000 associates (worldwide). Within the Asia-Pacific region, there are 45 companies in 12 countries with 32,800 associates.

Working to become a Corporation with a broader social presence, DENSO does not stop at technology innovations that make the automobile more environmentally friendly, safer and pleasant to drive, but is also venturing into areas that will help foster and enhance our social connections with people.

We are extending our technological know-how of robots development in the hope of creating a more environment-friendly workplace. DENSO is also expanding into the world of personal communication by forming R&D tie-ups with some of the world's largest companies to translate our technology of car electronics into world-class IT products.

As our business expands, we become more aware of the impact that our operations have on the environment. As such, we are working harder to achieve harmony with economic prosperity and environmental protection by planning to reduce waste, emissions and air and water pollution even before production begins. In order to achieve this, we, at DENSO, monitor the chemicals used in our operations and in particular, commits itself to the ongoing development of alternatives to lead.

It is, thus, our hope that through our technological innovations and dedication to making the world a more pleasant place to live in, we will succeed in developing the automotive industry into one of the largest industries in the 21st century in the region.

HISTORY OF DENSO SINGAPORE OPERATIONS

DENSO INTERNATIONAL SINGAPORE PTE LTD (DISP) was set up in 1995 with functions that includes aftermarket sales expansion for products such as Spark Plugs, Oil Filters, Fuel Injection Pump Parts, Wiper Blades, Car Airconditioner, Bus Aircon development and engineering.

In 1996, a Global Intra-Company Communication System (called Nice-Net), which utilizes leased lines technology to established communication link with all overseas group companies was established in our Singapore office.

DENSO Singapore won our first contract from Singapore Bus Services (SBS) to manufacture air-conditioner units for 50 double-deck buses in 1997.

Moving ahead, in December 1998, with the setting up of DENSO INTERNATIONAL ASIA PTE LTD (DIAS) with an initial capital of S$115m, this holding company and Regional Support Center with Headquarter functions assists the Asean/Oceania, Taiwan regions in functions such as import and export of regional complementation products as well as centralised procurement of raw materials for group companies in the Asia Pacific.

In 1999, operations expanded within our Singapore office to include a Logistics Management Center. With this, the current office moved from it’s existing location at The Mendel in Science Park I to a new 1,153 sqm office cum laboratory facility at The Aries in Science Park II.

Trans-Island Bus Services Ltd (TIBS) awarded DENSO Singapore a contract to manufacture air-conditioner units for 83 single-deck buses.

Singapore Bus Services (SBS) again awarded DENSO Singapore to manufacture air-conditioner units for 90 double-deck and 40 single-deck buses.

After settling in the new office at Science Park II, DENSO Corporation 3rd Material Technical Center (MTC) was established to effectively respond to the dynamic growth and market demand of the automotive industry in the Asia Pacific. The MTC in Singapore and DENSO Headquarters worked together to implement new raw materials with latest technology for the regions. Development of such materials was in collaboration with reliable suppliers.

At the same time, we were also awarded the prestigious Business Headquarters status by the Singapore Economic Development Board, also, concurrently, received an achievement award from our Headquarters for excellent Sales and Business Development Performance and Customer Satisfaction.

Embarking on Singapore’s physical and metaphorical location, DENSO Singapore established a Finance & Treasury Center function to centralize Forex and fund management. This activity would help reduce regional financial costs and help complement the Group’s efforts to risk management.

Trans-Island Bus Services Ltd (TIBS) again awarded DENSO Singapore to manufacture air-conditioner units for 30 articulated buses also known as the ‘accordion bus’.

With the Singapore’s government willingness to accept globalization and its corresponding foreign cultural and economic infusion, a joint-venture manufacturing company in Saudi Arabia between Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd and DENSO International Asia Pte Ltd was set-up in 2001.

In the year 2002, the following activities occurred : - DIAS introduced the world’s first two-way returnable box scheme across countries to deliver automotive parts amongst the production plants within the ASEAN region.

On the business front, we were awarded a contract by SBS Transit Ltd to manufacture air-conditioner units for 50 double-deck buses.

DENSO Singapore operations set up an Information System Centre in Singapore to standardize, upgrade and improve information systems throughout the ASEAN region.

Within the DENSO group itself, DENSO Singapore operations achieved the DENSO Corporation’s President Award for Excellence for Business Improvement and Results and this was achieved through progressive, dynamic and excellent performance.

On further expansion in our role as a Regional Headquarter, in 2003, a new function was setup in Singapore to provide operation support and strategic counsel to the Regional Group Companies for Aftermarket business. With this additional expansion, DENSO Singapore operations increased our office space to 2,200 sqm and created a state-of-the-art Aftermarket products showroom for our business associates, customers and suppliers.

A Regional Logistics Center function was also instituted to centralize the distribution of automotive parts within the region for more efficient inventory control and planning. With this set-up, a joint initiative project between DENSO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan, code name “J-FRONT ” was formed to enhance the two-way returnable box scheme with bigger size boxes.

Planning ahead, in the year 2004, a DENSO Singapore Training Center was launched to conduct management and technical skill training for Dealers and associates from DENSO affiliates in the region.

The Singapore Economic Development Board awarded DENSO Singapore operations the prestigious International Headquarters status in 2005 and SBS Transit Ltd again awarded a contract for us to manufacture air-conditioner units for 150 double-deck buses.

As such, it is the strong desire and intention of all of us at DENSO to align ourselves to the dynamic changes around us in order to stay relevant and responsive to growth opportunities and also, to play our part as a responsible global citizen.

With that, DENSO strongly hopes to contribute further to Singapore’s economic development and that of the region.
